Before any work begins, we define the pathway between each room leading to the exit in order to protect the flooring and ensure your home remains clean during all processes. Preparation also includes removing or masking all light fixtures, plant hooks, smoke and CO2 detectors, alarm sensors and ceiling vents.

After preparation is complete, we begin the wetting process by spraying water to every inch of the ceiling. After the water has completely soaked in, we begin carefully scraping with hand tools to remove the popcorn texture material. We use ladders, scaffolding or electric lift as needed. Once the scraping process is complete, we make all necessary repairs to sheetrock, re-coat the joints and nails and smooth out any uneven areas as needed.

The next step is to apply the new texture to the ceilings. Westland Acoustics' standard method of ceiling texture is hand-texture. Another common method is to match the ceiling texture with the current wall texture, however, it is up the customer which method of texture is applied. Other common methods of texture are knockdown and orange peel. If the customer wishes to have a smooth ceiling, this would require skim coating which is the process of applying a thin layer of compound over the ceiling, then sanding it smooth. Once the texture is dry, we prime and paint the ceiling with customer’s choice of color and finish.
